Wins At a Glance
Created a customized vinyl designs to be placed on the Ice Cream Truck, which was then toured through 33 neighborhoods across NYC.
Created 30 Know-Your-Rights palm cards in 2 languages, 60 versions total!
The Ice Cream Truck of Rights (ICTR) is a community-centered take on the traditional ice cream truck - combining rights education with free ice cream! The truck toured the NYC neighborhoods hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.
When community members “ordered” their flavor, they received free ice cream and a matching palm card with valuable rights information.
Spanning 8 “flavors”, the truck offered rights education in: housing, immigration, voting, healthcare, labor, education, and more!
Process & My Role
As the CEC’s lead in typography, I was entrusted to place all of the materials (type and illustrations) onto the truck itself and prepare all materials for print.
I mocked up several drafts to lay out what the exterior wrapping of the truck could look and feel like. This process was crucial to the success of the printing process and included a great deal of collaboration with illustrator, Hugo Gonzalez.
Truck Exterior
I lead the design and execution of our palm cards, ensuring that brand continuity and accessibility were maintained. While the original text copy for the truck was written by lawyer Rubio-MacWright, I also offered copy edits to ensure readability on the 2.5-inch cards.
Palm Cards
Fun Fact!
I authored the catchy taglines printed on the bus, such as…
“Knowing your rights is as easy as picking your favorite flavor!”
“Democracy has never tasted this good.”
